The Art of Storytelling

To be honest, I am still learning this art. Every where I look there is a story. Be it social media, blogs, articles etc. We all are a part of someone’s story. In content marketing, one needs to understand the art of storytelling. You have to stand out and not blend in. When a human being relate to your story, they will remember you too. I would say:

- Be real

- Be emotional

- Educate your audience.

You have to explain them why are you doing this. Hubspot Academy coined this term- The Golden circle which says that People don’t buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it. Begin your story with WHY. Then inform them what are your offering and how it will help them. In storytelling, always make a connection and establish a relationship with your audience.

There are certain elements of storytelling.

- Characters

- Conflict

- Resolution

Let me elaborate it for you.

Characters: Understand your audience here. Involve your readers/audience. Build the connection between you and the audience. Do not forget to empathize. Use “I”, “We”, “he said, she said” in your buyer persona. Understand the pain points of your buyer persona. Believe me, it will help you a lot. Consistency is the key here.

Conflict: Inspire your audience. This involves Awareness Stage + Consideration Stage + Decision Stage.

Storytelling + Buyers Journey.

You have to be genuine.

Resolution: This is where the closing takes place. Wrap it up here and that means proper CTAs (call-to-action). After the buyer has made decision, he should be guided through a proper CTA and not be misguided. After all, you don’t want to lose the buyer.

Take baby steps for your brand. You need to establish the brand in the market. Which is why understand your audience always. Make sure they feel it and make a connection with you and your brand.
